Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Here’s a great green from an aurora display in Iceland that lit up the sky there a few days ago. While it’s not exactly Irish green on the North Shore right now, we are having very early rains. But not to worry. There’s still plenty of snow and ice everywhere you look. But the rains are a harbinger of the changes to come — the spring equinox is only a few days away.

Fish:
We found some great little photos and stories about fish this week.:
Grand Marais’ Pete Harris was recently featured in a Minneapolis Star Tribune story about winter fishing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
To read the story and see more photos, click here.
Photographer Layne Kennedy recently posted photos of the late Grand Marais fisherman Dick Eckel taken in 1991. Here’s one.
Emily Ford, with her sled dog Diggins, recently completed her roughly 200-mile ski-snowshoe-hiking trek across the top of Minnesota.
It was an adventure, for sure, including a lake trout a local fisherman gave to her for her supper one day. She lashed it to her pack and kept walking until dinner time.
