The March Lion Arrives

It is overwhelmingly beautiful by Kristofer Bowman.

It is overwhelmingly beautiful by Kristofer Bowman.

Greetings from the North Shore, where the old-time adage, “March comes in like a lamb, goes out like a lion” was proven true this week as up to 18 inches of new snow blanketed our world.

And it’s also true, we’re all pretty tired of snow – there’s nowhere to put it, and this round was wet and sticky, the first time this winter. Which is good news. We need the moisture, according to the DNR. Plus, it’s melting like crazy.

Meanwhile, it’s pretty quiet in Cook County this week. Here’s what’s coming up.

The Grand Marais Art Colony will host Candice Methe as the its Instagram Takeover Artist on Thursday. Methe is a professional ceramic artist and educator living in Helena, Mont., where she is currently a long-term resident at the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts.

Each site will provide participants with a sticker to place on an event  card, and a completed card can be exchanged for a free glass of beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverage at The Gunflint Tavern. The event is free and open to all.

And on Saturday, the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino will hold the 2nd annual Portage Craft Beer Fest from 6-9 p.m. The Black River Revue will play for a dance starting at 8 p.m.

Participants are making Grand Marais a stop on their three-week Minnesota tour before heading out on a five-week tour of the United States. Open to all. Free.
