Greetings from the North Shore, where we’re thankful that the blizzard that shut down North Dakota missed us. High winds whipped up the Big Lake, though, and we got more snow.
Wave-watchers had a great day of it.
Meanwhile, we carry on.
First up on Thursday is the Grand Marais Art Colony’s Instagram Takeover. This week artist Pattie Chalmers, a printmaker and ceramicist, will feature her work.

On Friday and Saturday, North House Folk School will hold its annual Volunteer Weekend, as volunteers spruce up the campus for the summer months.
The event will kick off on Friday at 9 a.m. and will continue through Saturday. The volunteers will meet each morning at 9 a.m.and divide into project teams; there will be projects for all skill levels and abilities. The handwork will wrap up at 4 p.m. each day. All lunches will be provided. To cap off the event, a wood-fired pizza bake will be held on Saturday at 5 p.m. There are other perks, too. To find out more and sign up, click here.
Also on Saturday, the 2nd annual Celebration of the Tenacious Woman Earth Day Art Gala will open at Joy and Company.
Artists are invited to submit and exhibit their art inspired by the grandeur, beauty and fragility of Mother Earth. A gala reception for the artists will be held on Friday, April 22 from 4-6 p.m.
And, on Easter Sunday, Lutsen Mountains will host a Giant Easter Egg Hunt.
Kids of all ages are invited to hunt for more than 300 eggs hidden along the slopes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lift tickets are required.
On Monday, the George Morrison “Connections” exhibit opens at the Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center.
The exhibit features a collection of works by George Morrison as part of the celebration of the release of four of his images on USPS stamps later in the week. The Commemorative Forever Stamps Dedication Ceremony will be held on Friday, April 22 from 1-3 p.m. in Grand Portage.
Also, as part of the celebration, another exhibition of Morrison’s work will take place at the Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery. Artworks in the collection of the Cook County Historical Society will be on temporary display in the Anna Johnson Room, opening the week of April 18.
